News About Writing & Publishing: This Is The Current State Of Things

• Writing:  You know what the old saying about the best laid plans and something about mice and waffle, waffle, men? Well, I think the point I’m trying to make here is that I still haven’t got around to doing any writing yet. It’s sad, I know, but the ugly truth of the reality I live in is that sometimes other things must supersede the joys of writing. Currently I have quite a work load to deal with, which doesn’t leave much time and focus left for writing. On top of the joys of being a slave to the machine – or at the very least an indentured servant, something else has come up which will probably take up much of my time for the foreseeable future – and no, I’m not just talking about my sudden compulsion to make YouTube tech videos! More about it further below.

YouTube Channel

The new tech videos I’ve been posting on my channel have had a very positive reception so far, much to my surprise! I mean, I originally expected to have a barrage of nasty comments about my appearance or the sound of my voice, or to deal with transphobic rhetoric, but so far I’ve had none of that. It’s taken me YEARS to get to the point where I was willing to take the plunge and expose myself to whatever may come, regardless of my appearance or voice, to figure ‘well, fuck it!’ and just to do it! Connecting on a personal, face-to-face platform with potential readers has been an area my marketing strategy has lacked in for many years, so it’s probably about high time! But, that’s not to say there aren’t obstacles to be overcome. I’m a bit overweight – in spite of my best efforts to shed the extra centimeters and kilos, and my voice sounds like a sound clip from Torch Song Trilogy – but then I’m 51 years old now, recently discovered that I have ADHD and I’m on the neurodivergent spectrum, and I shouldn’t really burden myself with caring about what other people think about that sort of thing, should I?

My original marketing plan behind doing YouTube videos was to use these to build a following on YouTube in order to funnel traffic and attention towards my books – which appears to be having some positive effect so far – but the making of these videos is very labor and time intensive, even though they’re a lot of fun to make! Yes, I’ll still be continuing with these, as well as making a few new non-tech videos about my books and writing, so keep your eyes open for those!

Something Else Has Come Up – Something Beyond Amazing!

Beyond that, something else has come up, much to my immense surprise, which could take up much of my free time over the next two years or so of my life, something I never expected to happen and which I’ve secretly longed for over many years! However, I won’t give away any details about that yet, I first want to have it all set in concrete before I reveal anything!
