Good morning, friends and fans!
Welcome to another “Peek Into My Week”, a behind the scenes look into the (I hope) interesting events occurring in my daily life!
May 23, 2021.
For the most part, my weeks are the usual ensemble of dreary routine events – work, book marketing, tinkering on Dolly (my 1962 Beetle and daily transport), arguing with my wife about dinner, tripping over cats and rearranging the furniture – but just occasionally something interesting happens, interesting enough to want to tell someone about!
Here then, for your enjoyment, is my recollection of noteworthy events in my past week!
Monday:
Monday was a quiet ordinary day – except that I got to add 2450 words to “Sentinel“! The fourth book in the Galaxii Series as I’ve told you before, will probably reach 80k words, and currently it’s already sitting at just under 50k, so the end’s in sight!
As I mentioned in last week’s Peek, my laptop croaked (not literally – LOL) and so I’ve been stuck using an older spare I had stashed away “just in case” – thankfully. On Monday morning I sent Teljoy (the company I rent it from) an email about the problem and hope they’ll get back to me soon about repairs and a way forward.
Tuesday:
On Tuesday morning I added a few hundred more words to “Sentinel”! In the afternoon, I spent some time listening to Nigel Peever’s recording of “Demonspawn“.
I haven’t really had the time to do so before… I have to admit, I’m very, very impressed! I know it’s my own story and you might think I’m tooting my own horn here, but his narration has me spellbound! It’s like listening to an old timey radio drama!
I’ve been listening all the way to part 8… I’ll continue tomorrow. Why not give it a listen yourself? You can find it on Audible and Amazon.
Wednesday:
I finished listening to the audiobook of “Demonspawn” – and enjoyed every minute of it! You can find it here on Audible and enjoy it as well.
Not having got any reply from Teljoy about my laptop fault report on Monday, I looked up their phone number and gave them a call. They promised to get a technician to call me back ASAP. I resolved to not hold my breath. This old laptop I’m using in the meantime is a bit cranky – several keys don’t work, meaning I have to use an extra USB keyboard as well.
Thursday:
On Thursday I quickly finished and posted my weekly “Easy DIY” article.
Since my little fridge in my office at work packed up last week, I’ve been carrying a small bottle of milk with me from home every morning. This morning I got to work and realized I’d forgotten it in the fridge at home! Not to be outdone, I went out at tea time to a nearby corner shop to get some – I also hadn’t brought any lunch with me, so while I was there I bought two samoosas and a pie. …It was only when I got back to the office that I realized I hadn’t got any milk!
Ah well… at least “Sentinel” is now at 50342 words!
When I arrived home on Thursday afternoon, I found my new DIY project waiting for me – an old Singer sewing table I’d traded two antique beds for!
For a long time now, I’ve wanted one of these to go with the antique sewing machine I inherited from my grandmother! These things are antiques, and finding a decent one going for under a thousand rand is a little difficult these days – so I figured I’d find a tatty old one – and make it decent! Once I’ve tidied this messy old thing up, I’ll be able to do some creative needlework more comfortably in future – and it’ll really look nice too!
Stay tuned for a future Easy DIY article about this project on my DIY site – and probably in a future issue of the Weekend Post’s “DIY on a Dime”!
Friday:
I still haven’t heard from Teljoy’s famous technician yet – though I did get an SMS this morning to say one would get in touch soon, probably before New Year.
I also received an email from Hally Park, my new publisher for the South African market to let me know that they were working through everything I’d sent them and that the first phase of editing will begin soon!
It will probably be a while yet before the first of my books appears in paperback in South Africa, but I’ve waited for it to happen my whole life, so I guess it’s easier to be patient now!

Cheers!
