Good morning, friends and fans!
Welcome to a “Peek Into My Week”! Here’s a look at some of my latest news: January 2, 2023!
Here are some things that happened this past week. Bearing in mind the time of year, it’s actually very, very quiet! BTW, in case I haven’t wished you before, happy new year to you and yours!
News About Writing & Publishing: This Is The Current State Of Things
Let’s take a look at the current status quo on various ongoing issues affecting my writing or publishing:
- Audiobooks on ACX: The process of transferring my audiobooks from Moon Books Publishing’s ACX account to Nigel Peever‘s ACX account is 99% complete. I’m still waiting for news that the audiobook for “High Steaks” has been transferred, then it’s all done!
- Recording & New Audiobooks: Darla Middlebrook has been uploading new chapters recorded for “Static“, the first book in the Panic! series, to ACX.
- Marketing: During the closing days of December I also managed to redraft and update “Portfolio” for 2023, so visitors can download it and use it to look through my catalog later when they feel like it.
I had actually last released “Portfolio” in 2021 and was in the process of completing the update for 2022 when Brandon Mullins, my publisher at Moon Books Publishing, suddenly died. Let’s just say that after that, I didn’t really see the point in releasing an update since my books were in limbo for a considerable portion of the year, and just leave it at that. Nevertheless, things are settled now, and for the last few months it’s been back to business as usual, so having skipped an update, here’s the updated current catalog!
I also created a new Extracts page on the website, where you can read extracts of some selected books for free! Gee, aren’t I nice?
- Writing: For the past few weeks I’ve been working on the editing side of a commissioned work for Peever Publishing: “Christina Engela Investigates The Classics: Pirates of the Sea & Sky“. In order for there to be an audiobook, there has to be an eBook or paperback first! Thus far I’ve gathered public domain short stories about pirates and also submissions sent by some authors, and preparing the formatting of the finished article. So far there will be contributions by Matt Bradley Tshirgi and Thomas M. Malafarina and Anya Louw to look forward to! As there’s a need for this book to be a nice long read, I still need a few more short stories to fill it out to 100k words, so I’ve put out a call for submissions. You can send any space pirate short stories you may have to me. This title is the first in an envisaged series and is likely to debut later in January. More to follow.
On Dec 30 I finished copy-editing a 1 act play called “The Traitor Loyal”, a play I first wrote back in 1991! It was sort of like 17 year old me versus older, more mature me working on the same project! Then on Dec 31, I finished a new short story entitled “The Pirates Of Carthagena”. The latter will likely be included in the Pirates anthology as well as appear in the next Space Sucks collection.
Other Stuff
What have I kept myself busy with on my holiday? Well, aside from occasional binges of editing and formatting and cover or poster design, I’ve been doing very little! Resting, chiefly, and watching TV shows on hard drive and Netflix! We watched the entire series of Mrs. Brown’s Boys last week, and then hit another old faithful, Ghost Adventures! A little D.I.Y. in between, here and there. Oh, and sleeping a lot! Isn’t that what holidays are for?
Submissions are still open! Don’t forget to Send Your Submissions Now: Schtick! Webzine for Sci-fi & Transgressive Fiction!
That’s all for this week!
As always, I’ll keep you posted about any further developments. And remember:
In spite of some of my books having been on Amazon since 2005, not one of them has yet reached 10 reviews, let alone 50! I would really appreciate your help on this! Come on, leave a review – it’s free!
I wish you all a pleasant week until next time!
