From The Imperial Terran Archives

The Galaxii Series did not just suddenly ‘pop’ into being… it started out as earlier abortive attempts at novels, short stories and even comic-books when I was a teenager. These earlier attempts have left an archive-full of drafts, sketches, notes, drawings, plans, designs, a few actual models, and other assorted clutter… some of it quite interesting… I thought I would share some of it with you! 🙂

Above: Some of my earliest drafts of stories that ultimately became “Blachart” and “Demonspawn”.

Below: The final written version of Blachart (1998) in a lever-arch file, alongside a draft for an earlier separate story called “Overkill”, parts of which were incorporated into Blachart during the 2003 revision as I first typed the story on a PC.

Writing as it used to be, folks! These days it’s so much easier, faster and convenient to type and edit a manuscript. Quite honestly, I don’t know how I managed it before… I sure don’t miss those finger-cramps!

Below, a set of pages from a story I illustrated as a graphic novel, circa 1990 or so.

The only part of this story that got used since, was the part about the Starbase being attacked in “Blachart”. I might still use the written version of this story again in future, in another book.

Below: A series of photos of the I.S.S. Antares.

Above: The original model mounted on a book stop. It was made originally from parts of several plastic model kits around 1991-2 and painted. Sadly, the model deteriorated in storage over 20 years and had to be restored.Above: A side-view sketch of the Antares from the port side.

Above: a basic layout side-view diagram of the Antares (2018) based on the earlier sketch.

Above: a photo of the restored model in front of a space backdrop (2017).

Above: The Antares model with a group of other model starships (2017). Back row, black ship – a Ruminarii Hammerhead, brown ship – a loderunner, the Kilgary. Front row, I.S.S. Antares and the I.S.S. Mordrake, both Benatar class Cruisers, and a Phoenix Class Attack Destroyer.

Above: a sketch of Commander Ripley Jones, one of the lead characters of “Blachart” from about 1990.

Below: A collage of sketches done for the original first title of the Galaxii Series, “Galaxii”, also from about 1990.
