Good morning, friends and fans!
This morning I found two new reviews of my books – one of “Static“, book one in my Panic! Horror In Space series, and the other of my children’s anti-bullying book “Other Kids Are Kids Almost Just Like You“. These are just too good to not share with you!
The review of “Other Kids” had been posted in March (I’d somehow missed it since I’m not that familiar with Instagram – in fact it’s totally cryptic!) and the reviewer, Dr. (in education) Robert F. DeFinis, gave it 5 stars and said:
“Rhyming can be difficult for many children’s book authors. However, author Christina Engela gives us a master class on how to do it just right in this book. The words flow beautifully. It’s as if they bounce from page to page. Further, the words are so carefully chosen to meet the creative illustrations that capture the uniqueness of every child portrayed. This is why I think it’s an “instant classic,” and give it five stars. I highly recommend this book for anyone rearing children in today’s diverse world!”
The review of Static (posted on May 24) was a little less flattering, garnering 3 stars, but oh well, that’s the risk you take as an author. It has been well and truly said that one can’t please them all.
I’m grateful to the reviewer for his objectivity. In spite of Static not being exactly his sort of horror, Mr. Keown was generous in his review and still had a lot of complimentary things to say about the book:
“All things considered, Static: Panic! Horror in Space Book 1 provides amusing and light-hearted action within a science-fiction setting, sprinkled with the odd spooky scene and a strong comic current too.”
“Comedy is often a very difficult thing to pull off as it is so subjective, and although I didn’t think every joke landed for me personally, the author did do a good job of infusing a jovial flow to the narrative. She also effectively establishes her own sci-fi universe and lore without bogging down the book with too many details, instead allowing the world to grow and expand naturally through the stories.”
“That aside, this is an enjoyable read with some snappy dialogue exchanges and jokes aplenty. It’s maybe a tad light on the horror elements for my taste, but the stories themselves were lively and fun.”
My sincere appreciative thanks to both reviewers for taking the time to read my books – and for their frank, honest reviews!
