Good morning, friends and fans!
Welcome to another “Peek Into My Week”, a behind the scenes look into the (I hope) interesting events occurring in my daily life!
August 02, 2021.
For the most part, my weeks are the usual ensemble of dreary routine events – work, book marketing, finding time to write, highlights, lowlights, tinkering on Dolly (my 1962 Beetle and daily transport), arguing with my wife about dinner, tripping over cats, or rearranging the furniture – but just occasionally something interesting happens, interesting enough to want to tell someone about!
Here then, for your enjoyment, is my recollection of noteworthy events in my past week!
Monday:
Over the past 14 weeks, while I’ve been posting these journal entries, it’s probably come to your attention that while I’m a writer, I’m also just an ordinary person with an ordinary everyday life, and ordinary everyday person problems! That’s all I ever hope to be, no matter how much success I achieve as a writer!
More Quantum Audiobooks To Follow Soon!
On Monday of course, I posted the latest episode of A Peek @ My Week, but considering how crappy the last week was, it’s so nice to be able to start this week off with some good news! The good news I have relates to my audiobooks, specifically to the Quantum Series of sci-fi novels. Darla Middlebrook, the wonderful lady who narrated “Black Sunrise” (still in the process of being released on Audible) messaged me to say how much she enjoyed narrating the first book in the series, and expressed interest in reading the rest of the series! Brandon at Moon Books Publishing, who handles my audiobooks overseas, was also happy to hear it – so it seems likely that Darla could be the narrator for the whole series – but at this early stage, there’s still a lot of missing dots and crosses… so I’ll let you know as soon as anything develops! For now though, I’m very excited about this!
In the meantime, I was so excited about it that I also prepared a release announcement for “Black Sunrise“!
Tuesday & Wednesday:
Work on those two days was way too busy for much else to happen!
Thursday:
On Thursday I woke up to some more good news! The audiobook of “Black Sunrise“, book 1 in the Quantum Series had been newly released during the night! Here’s a look at the audiobook cover:
You can get “Black Sunrise” in all its different formats by clicking on the buttons below:
When I arrived at work Thursday morning, I discovered that the power had been off since the previous evening. Hence there was no power for computers, kettles, fridges etc. Fortunately I’m mostly prepared for things like that, due to load-shedding – although this was another equipment failure with an open-ended time on restoration of power. I had my portable camping gas stove and kettle handy to make coffee, my laptop to work on, and once my Wi-Fi router’s power ran out, I used my mobile phone’s as a tether!
A Little More Good News
On Thursday evening, I heard that Darla had already started preparing to do book 2 in Quantum, “The Time Saving Agency” – and that’s excellent news! She should be starting on recording soon. Also, I was approached by an audiobook reviewer who asked to review “Black Sunrise“!
Friday:
Not much happened on Friday, just work and chill time at home with the wiffle and the kitties!
Saturday:
On Saturday morning I quickly carried out a final adjustment to Dolly’s starboard side rocker gaps, and then we went out for a little grocery shopping. When we returned around 1230, I set to work on the garage door motor. After taking note of the wiring on the control box, I detached the wiring and the motor assembly and removed them to the workshop. It was there that I noticed there was a missing pin in the clutch assembly, which caused the motor’s drive gear to rotate freely. I literally only had to reinsert the pin again – which I’d found loose on the garage floor last week and wondered where it had come from – and it would work perfectly again! I did – and it did! A few minor adjustments to the door opening and closing positions using the buttons on the control box (which I had to work out without a manual), and it was all done!
Bear in mind that I’d asked a company that installs and repairs these door motors to have a look during the week and give me a quote to repair my door – and not only did they say it was “beyond repair”, but (of course) they quoted me the cost of replacing the entire garage door and motor and control box – for over 7.5k! No thanks – I sorted it out myself for free! Also I have to admit everything went right for a change, I didn’t even struggle once! Weird!

Cheers!
