Hello friends and fans!
The Quantum Series currently has 6 books in it, but as you’re probably aware, since 2016 I’ve been working on a span of three new interconnected stories in the series that follow onto books 5 and 6. I’ve kept you all informed about my progress in writing the next three books that follow in the same story-arc – and doing so more or less simultaneously – give or take a couple of breaks in between!
As you can imagine, finishing all three of them has been a gargantuan task, but I’m happy to say that this process is finally complete – with “Underground Movement“, “Xanadu” and “The Last Hurrah” – all three new books, finished and about to be released very soon!
Today I’ll be telling you about book 7 “Underground Movement“.
In “Underground Movement“, we pick up at where the previous book “High Steaks” ended. The colony world Deanna is facing the start of the Deannan Uncivil War, with the newly established Loyalist Militia about to take on the right wing fascist group who have launched a revolution to hijack the colony away from the Terran Empire in order to establish a society based on fascist principles.
People whom the new government have declared as “undesirables” have been rounded up and carted off to a concentration camp called Xanadu. The very first item on the list of the Loyalist Militia is to take Xanadu and free these prisoners, before it’s too late. But before they can do this, they first need to give their volunteers some training – and of course, while the fledgling Militia is doing push-ups in the Wilds, people in the cities feel the need to do something as well… What Deanna also needs, is a resistance movement. It’s up to Marla de Bris, an apparent 20 year old girl, to build one.
Reconnect with familiar characters Cindy-Mei Winter, Beck the Badfeller, the Skeggs Valley Dynamite Fishing Club, Timaset Skooch, the crew of the Celeste, and others as events unfold – guided in some small way with the assistance of a certain agent from the Time Saving Agency.
The Council in control of Deanna’s vampire underground hands Marla de Bris (a 200 year-old vampire herself) the task of establishing a resistance movement in Deanna’s three largest cities. The Resistance – and in particular regular characters like Fred the Arborian, Peg (the deposed Sheriff) and Marla herself, starts out making daily life a perilous affair for the stormtroopers of the Deannan Republican Army.
The back cover blurb:
“Deanna, a small backwater Terran colony generally known as an idyllic tourist-magnet (if watching birds blow up if they flew too high were your kind of thing) had just hit a speed-bump on the highway of Life called the Deannan Un-civil War.
With someone at the Time Saving Agency helping Gary Beck and Cindy-Mei Winter pull a few of the right strings, everything according to the Anals of History (not a typo) was still unfolding more or less as it should – just a bit quicker. Either way, Deanna – the spotted cow of the galaxy, was still in a lot of trouble.
A fascist army was in charge, rounding up undesirables and sending them to a concentration camp called Xanadu, while contemporaneously, a loyalist militia rapidly fomented in the Grauffis family’s den. But while the numerous volunteers and veterans of every war fought by the Terran Empire for the last century trained and got back into the swing of things, that was not enough.
Deanna needed a resistance movement – badly.
In the face of this terror, the daunting task of starting a resistance movement from scratch fell to one Marla De Bris – who despite looking unusually youthful, healthy (and alive) for someone who had nigh on 200 years experience in being a secret vampire – didn’t have terribly much experience in this sort of thing. Guerrilla warfare had never been one of her interests – but oh well, someone had to do it… Someone had to buy time for the Militia to prepare to take on the formidable Deannan Republican Army – and to get as many people as possible out of harms’ way before the war really got going. It might as well be her.”
In “Underground Movement“, readers will make the acquaintance of new characters, including heroes and villains and embark on an adventure laced with thrills, spills and action. A number of sub-plots run through these latest new stories, including that of Danielle, a young transwoman who was captured by the fascists and sent to their concentration camp, Xanadu. This particular sub-plot tells of how she comes to be at Xanadu, and the quest of some of the main characters to find and rescue her and the others from their fate and to end the reign of terror of the fascists. Meanwhile, the Deannan Uncivil War continues to build up towards a crescendo – and passes the baton onto the next book in the series, “Xanadu“.
