Christina Engela’s Monthly Newsletter: #56 August 2021

Hello, friends and fans!

Welcome to my 56th monthly newsletter!

Pull up a chair, let’s chat!

Let’s take a look at this months’ news!

July… well… what can I really say about it? For many of us in South Africa, July 2021 was one of those crazy, traumatic months we’d rather forget. Not only has there been the ongoing taxi-centered violence in Cape Town, but to make matters worse, we as South Africans endured an attempt by Zuma’s lackeys to make the country ungovernable – the riots lasted longer than a week and the damage done in two provinces, KZN and Gauteng has done incalculable harm to our already foundering economy… not to mention the inconvenience and dangers posed to resident of those provinces. And in the midst of our third wave of a global and deadly pandemic too.

The dust had barely settled, and extreme cold weather and flooding hit parts of the country as well… which in turn caused power disruptions. Our power at home for example, was off for 30 hours. But we coped. We improvised. We made the best of it. Africa is a tough continent, but not so tough as its people methinks. For me it was the shitty weather, the rioting and looting that threatened to spread across the country – and to my city, then the flooding and power disruptions that reduced us to living by candle light for several days that made July a memorable month – followed by car troubles of my own that needed seeing to! It was a pretty shitty month on the home front and I’d rather put July behind me and forget it, if it’s all the same to you.

A Mish-Mash Of General News

I had several news updates during July from Hally Park Publishers about their progress on preparing to release my books via their book stores and to the Department of Education. “African Assignment” and “A Way Of Life” are deep into the editing process now and should be completed fairly soon. Hally Park will be releasing them in eBook and paperback versions. I’m looking forward to seeing which of the others they’ll be working on next!

The next bit of news I have for you concerns the audiobook version of “Black Sunrise” – book one in the Quantum Series. Narrated by Darla Middlebrook, the audiobook is now available on Audible! More impressively, Darla told me she enjoyed recording the book so much so that she’d like to tackle the rest of the series as well! I got hold of Brandon, CEO of Moon Books Publishing (Indiana, USA) and he was so delighted to hear that, he got in touch with her the same day and made arrangements! Darla has already sent the first 15 minute sample of “The Time Saving Agency” over, and he’s in stitches just listening to it, and long and short of it is, the second book is now being recorded as well! I’m sure there’ll be more updates about more audiobooks in the Quantum Series coming out soon!

Anyway, let’s get to it and take a look at the usual list of goodies!

Current Writing Projects

Due to all the disruptions during this past month, I really haven’t managed to do much in the way of writing! I know, it sounds like a terrible excuse, but writers have lives too – and problems that need our attention. Adulting is hard – and even though I’d much rather be writing than having to deal with leaky kitchen roofs, car trouble or the real world around me falling apart on an irregular basis, it’s just not in me to run from my problems. I still wanted to do some more work on “Sentinel”, seeing as the end is pretty much in sight as far as the story plan is progressing, but unfortunately July just wasn’t the sort of month I could write in! I still hoped by the time I posted this, I’d be able to add: “That said, during the last week of July I managed to….” Unfortunately I didn’t, so I can’t. It’s no use crying over spilled milk, so I’ll just have to make the best of August!

Thanks a stack for your support – it means a lot to me that there’s so many of you all still here with me.

Interactions

I have the following awesome items to show you this month.

    1. Dymocks, an Australian book store chain, are now listing paperback versions of my books!
    2. Booksradar have a listing for me on their website!

I display my Fan Mail & Compliments with pride, gratitude and humility. You’re always welcome to have a look.

Yay! I finally have one item to show you this time!

    1. A comment received on a share of an article on July 06, 2021. People like this are the reason why I have to write silly articles (1,2) explaining sarcasm, wit, puns, parody and satire. Exactly how doomed is the Human race, that it can’t seem to grasp these fundamentals of intellect anymore?
  1. I’m rather proud of my hate mail, and you can review my collection here – but be forewarned, don’t do it while eating or drinking, or you might choke while laughing!
  2. Interviews

  1. All my interviews are linked to from this page. If you would like to do an interview with me about my work, please do get in touch!

In Closing

Well, that’s all for this time, folks!

Thanks again for all your support, sharing, friendship and interaction!

As always, feel free to email or message me via Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn if you have any comments or questions!
