Hello friends and fans!
In case you’re wondering about the name of my newsletter “Another Round At The Crow Bar“: The name refers to a bar in my Quantum Series – the one at Atro City Spaceport, which is called “The Crow Bar”. Since people like to share anecdotes and funny stories while sitting at the bar, I figured it would make a good name for my newsletter, and imagined myself sitting at the Crow Bar chatting and sharing news with interested readers and fans!
Welcome to Another Round At The Crow Bar – and my 50th newsletter!
January 2021 is already done, filled with the sort of Machiavellian drama and dread I’d grown accustomed to during the last year especially – and some joys as well, particularly around the 20th – and today being the first of February, tomorrow I return to work!
It’s been a nice holiday in general. Kay and I spent all of it at home, hardly going anywhere except shopping for essentials due to that pestilential pandemic and idjits still not wearing their masks, or not wearing them as intended. Truth is, it’s safest to be shut-ins right now, and we’re well on our way to being that.
During December and January I got a lot done in terms of home DIY things, painting walls and repairing roof leaks and so forth. I also managed to keep up my book marketing efforts as well as posting regular “Easy DIY” articles to keep the Weekend Post lady in material to put in my weekly column “DIY on a dime”!
I didn’t get to work on my writing projects much over the holiday, but that’s okay – I have the rest of the year for that! 😉 I did manage to get some client editing in, until another project came up, that of an academic peer review I was invited to do, which took up an entire week spent researching for references and citations and developing my review! More about that later.
Anyway, let’s get to it and take a look at the usual list of goodies!
Current Writing Projects
I managed to get some editing in during January, but didn’t get to my own writing this time, aside from a little academic work! 😉 The holiday’s over now, so I’ll update you on my progress in next month’s newsletter!
Marketing – The Dreaded “M” Word!
As an indie author, most of the marketing that gets done, is done by me. This is an unfortunate consequence of choosing the path of an indie author – but the cons of indie authoring are far outweighed by the pros – and I’m certainly not sorry!
One of the main benefits of being and indie author and walking the self-publishing path, is retaining creative control over your works. Also, having the support of a traditional small press (Moon Books Publishing) handling my main distribution channel for eBooks, paperbacks and audiobooks via Amazon and Audible for me, is a great bonus!
What helps indie authors like me most however, is when readers share my posts to help me promote my books! Word of mouth sales make a huge difference – so I really appreciate it when I see you share my book promotion posts on social media!
I thought it would be nice if I could produce a neat, organized catalog of all my books that interested parties could download and browse – a free, distributable and shareable catalog, and so I created “Portfolio 2021!” – a listing of all my currently available titles!
Portfolio is more than that though, because it also contains a biography as well as synopses for most of my titles – and I have a plan to update it regularly, perhaps on an annual basis! Portfolio 2021 is available as a free download from my website.
Publishing
I haven’t published anything new for 2021 yet – although I still have a few new works in progress! Meanwhile, here are the books I released in 2020:
Let’s see what I have to offer you in 2021!
New Releases:
My first release for 2021 is an academic paper entitled “Satanism vs Pseudo-satanism: Disambiguation And Argument Against Conflation From Within Religious Satanism“.
In this paper I discuss the harm caused by the conflation of Satanism as a religious movement with the Christian-created myth of “pseudo-satanism” by Christian evangelicals, as well as providing a simple disambiguation to distinguish the two from each other.
The paper is available for free at Academia.edu and is 36 pages (15,876 words) long.
Although it’s probably not everyone’s cup of tea as the saying goes (it is an academic work after all), it does address some things which could be important to some people. You’d need to read it to decide for yourself – and if you’re squirming in discomfort or hopping up and down about it, you’re probably one of the folks who needs to read it! 😉
I seem to be on a bit of an academic bent this year, as I’m already putting the finishing touches to a second paper for 2021, but more about that in the next newsletter.
