Let’s take a look at this months’ news!
Changes In The Offing
Over the last few months I’ve had a lot to deal with due to the recent implosion of the publishing side of my life. It’s not easy as a writer, to experience so many disappointments and to not lose hope! The death of a friend and publisher rates right at the top of that scale as far as I’m concerned!
I think you’ll be glad to know that there is a resurgence in the works!
After a few weeks of feeling really low about an absence of royalty payments, and lack of control over my books where they are currently, I decided to change strategy. I have requested Elizabeth, Brandon’s widow at Moon Books Publishing, to take down my paperbacks and eBooks from Amazon as soon as she can. In the meantime, my books will still be available via Smashwords all channels – and my audiobooks will remain on Audible under Moon Books’ curatorship.
Meanwhile I’ve chosen to return – as far as possible, to self-publishing. Working with Brandon as my publisher was a wonderful, enriching experience, but I have doubts whether anyone else will ever fill that place in future. The lack of control over my publishing process I’ve experienced since Brandon’s death has reminded me why I undertook to stay indie before Moon Books – after the last time I burned my fingers with a small press traditional publisher – and this experience post Brandon, has renewed my commitment to maintaining my independence.
The first step of this journey, was to address the matter of my book covers, which were recently redesigned by Brandon. I was very happy with those covers, but unfortunately, the source files for these remain on Brandon’s computer in Indiana, and inaccessible to me. In spite of being a capable graphic designer, I was unable to duplicate them exactly, mainly because I couldn’t obtain the background images he used – nor could I identify and exactly match the fonts. Of course I could just have used the existing images – but if I wanted to add new titles to the series, they wouldn’t look the same. Instead I resolved to use the images in the existing covers and simply “cut off” the bits that had the title text on them. Then I added the titles with suitable fonts I did have.
On last Friday afternoon and evening, I completed new covers for Galaxii and Quantum. In some cases, I replaced the cover images completely, but I did preserve some of the ones made by Brandon. I also made new ones for Panic! Horror In Space and the standalone novel “Best Served Cold“. Here they are below for you to view:

Coming Soon!
Under the sub-heading of “Coming Soon!” – er, perhaps I should add “we hope” considering that it will be delayed for some time, here is the cover for the upcoming release of the audiobook for “High Steaks“. I did manage to convince Elizabeth to undertake to log into the Moon Books account at Audible to click “approve” for this book, but as yet, I haven’t had any feedback about this matter.
Stay tuned for more new releases and updates!
