A Peek At My Week! #163

Hello, friends and fans!

Welcome to another “Peek At My Week” – August 26, 2024! Here are some things that happened this past week!

News About Writing & Publishing: This Is The Current State Of Things

If you’re one of the people reading this newsletter, I’m so happy to see you! You’re part of something unique and very special to me, both as a writer and personally!

  • The BIG News: I apologize once again for not spilling all the beans about this matter yet, but I still can’t divulge anything – at least until “it” – whatever “it” is, has been ultimately finalized. The date for that has been shifted to the right a few times already from end June, to around mid-August, to 23 August – and now basically until whenever the admin has been sorted out – and I’ll only be able to share my big news with you after I’ve been given the green light to do so! (Imagine how I feel about it – it’s almost like it’s never going to actually happen!) Rest assured, as soon as I know, you’ll know! I will leave this up for as long as is appropriate.
  • General News: 1) Surprise! I did a bit of writing this past weekend! I did some work on “Flushed”, the first episode in the next “Panic! Horror In Space” book. I might get to do a bit more writing this week, but we’ll see how that goes, okay? More about that soon! 2) Nigel Peever, who owns Peever Publishing, where my audiobooks are – messaged me on Sunday to let me know I’d had some good sales this month in the US and Germany, which really made my day!
  • New Music Videos: I’ve created a new page on my website to display all my new music videos from my YouTube channel – click on the linked image below to see them!
  • Recent Promo Videos:

  • What Readers Say: I know I can’t please everybody (so I’m not trying to!). That said, it pleases me when I see that I’ve managed to please at least some people (hopefully you’re counted among them )! If there’s nothing new below, just pop along here to have a look at all the reader’s comments I’ve collected so far.

Other Stuff

An Episode Of Gala-ctic Discomfort
Those of you who know me well should know I’m not a very outgoing person. Sure, I had my time in the spotlight and flittered about in the limelight – but that was years ago now, when I was still fronting various LGBT human rights activism organizations. For the past two decades essentially, I’ve been getting used to the dark so to speak, like a mole! On 22 August, I had to attend a women’s month gala evening at a very fancy hotel in town, and was basically forced into it due to work pressures.
To give you an idea, I don’t even possess any evening wear anymore! Funny things happen to our bodies when we get older y’know – and suddenly those tight, revealing clothes don’t fit so nicely anymore, or feel half as comfortable or even a quarter as appropriate! I also don’t like going out to clubs, drinking people under the table or putting myself on display anymore. After all, I’m an independent strong woman – I don’t feel a need to advertise the wares like I’m a slab of meat on a counter, and my style has also changed a helluva lot from those days! Clothing also ages, and I cleared my wardrobe out quite some time ago, and donated a lot of clothing to Hospice Shop. In fact, the last time I even went out of the house at night was probably in 2017! With times being as tough as they are – unlike my gullible colleagues who also attended – I sure as fuck wasn’t going to waste 1000+ bucks on a glittery outfit I probably wouldn’t ever wear again, just to impress people – and of course, hair and nails and make-up! So there I was, dressed in ankle-boots, jeggings and a semi-clear black t-shirt under a red check button-up shirt. It was the first time I’d even worn make-up since before Covid hit in 2020 – so don’t try to pretend I didn’t put any effort into it, okay!
What can I say? Yeah… I fitted right in, as usual. I paced about the venue uncomfortably waiting for this bloody thing to start, dressed for all intents and purposes like a dyke, while they were all (including some actual dykes – weird, I know, right?) dressed up to the nines in glittery evening dresses with fancy clothes, nails and hairdos – and false eyelashes they could sweep the carpet with! Some regarded me like an insect buzzing about – are you working tonight? Why are you dressed like… that? Are you, like, the photographer? (Could they see a camera? I certainly wasn’t wearing one!) In fact, that event was the one I’d taken the least photos of in probably the last decade – and for me, that whole shit-show felt like one of those nightmares where I wake up after realizing I’m in school and I’m not wearing any pants. I was like a cat on a hot tin roof – and couldn’t wait to get the hell outta there! Unfortunately, it dragged on and on and on… until I could finally leave after 21:30. On the whole I don’t think I handled it too badly – for someone who never wanted to attend it in the first place!
I am a woman, this is my body, therefore it is a woman’s body. These are my clothes, it is evening. I wore them for the occasion, therefore they are evening wear. There, was that so hard?
For the last time, I don’t enjoy formal events – I don’t fit in, and never will – so please stop trying to force me to attend them, especially with expectations of how I should dress and act for the occasion. It’s taken my whole life to figure out who I really am, and I won’t change that just to suit you. This was the last time, thank you.
In Conclusion

As always, I’ll keep you posted about any new developments, so until then, I wish you all a pleasant week!

Thanks a lot for all your friendship and support, I hope you know it is deeply appreciated – and remember, keep reading!

Cheers!
